Prevent Yourself From Getting An Eye Strain Headache
Eye strain is a growing problem today, especially with society’s growing reliance on technology and people looking into TVs, monitors, and phones for extended periods of time. Eye strain can cause a multitude of problems, ranging from depleted vision, to the most popular symptom – a headache. Most headaches are manageable and you can continue working through them, but a headache cause by eye strain is usually much more severe, and much more painful. Luckily, there are several ways to prevent you from getting an eye strain headache, and if done properly prevent the eye strain problem entirely.
Re-Focus Your Eyes
When you’re deeply involved with your work it’s easy to spend countless hours staring into the same screen, with minimal blinking. While it’s ok to stare into your monitor/TV for a little while, after about 30 minutes or so it becomes very taxing on your eyes and your mind. You’ll find your eyes hurting, and an unbearable headache forming in the back of your head. To prevent this from happening re-focus your eyes onto something farther away, such as the other corner of your room. Keep your eyes locked onto the new object for 10-30 seconds, and then you can resume looking at whatever it was you were looking at.
Take Frequent Breaks
After a while re-focusing your eyes just won’t cut it and you’ll have to take a short break in order to prevent an eye strain headache. After 2 or so hours you should stand up and take a short walk. Spend a good 5-10 minutes either stretching or just taking your mind off of what you were previously doing. This little break will help your mind relax and help relieve any accumulated stress.
