Treatment Of Eye Strain
Treatment of eye strain will vary from person to person as often the strain has been caused in different ways. It’s also important to eliminate or reduce any factors which may have caused your eyes to become strained in the first place, this can be done by following our prevention tips.
The simplest way to treat eye strain is to let your eyes rest by avoiding high strain tasks such as; using a computer, reading a book or driving. If rest is not an option (these tasks are often required by work commitments) then using eye exercises will help to alleviate the symptoms associated with strained eyes. The other treatment options are as follows:
Eye Lubrication:
One of the side effects of eye strain is your eyes becoming dry. In fact dry eyes are one of the first symptoms of eye strain and if left untreated can cause the other symptoms to worsen.
Your eyes are usually lubricated and kept “wet” by your tear ducts which product small tears, these tears are then applied by the eye lids to lubricate the eyes. Sufferers of eye strain will often blink less due to intense concentration or any of the other factors which cause eye strain such as computer screen glare. This lack of blinking and poor eyelid function (both associated with eye strain) lead to sub-standard eye lubrication.
This is thankfully easily solved in two ways; the first being to force yourself to manually blink. This method is best used when following the 20/20/20 rule. The other much simpler and easier method of lubricating the eyes is to use fake tears which can be bought over the counter or online.
As mentioned earlier, eye strain is not severe and as such most of the methods for treating it simply require taking a small breaking and employing some of the eye exercises shown on this site.
